The World Academy of Agricultural Sciences Appoints Dr. Howard Doong as Chief Bioscience Consultant

Dr. Doong will deliver high-level academic consultation in agricultural crop biosafety assessment, biological risk monitoring, and germplasm resource evaluation.

The World Academy of Agricultural Sciences (WAAS) has officially appointed Dr. Howard Doong (Doong Joeyuan) as its Chief Bioscience Consultant. Boasting interdisciplinary academic expertise spanning molecular biology, high-throughput genetic sequencing and crop genetics, Dr. Doong will deliver high-level academic consultation and professional technical support to WAAS's core undertakings, including agricultural crop biosafety assessment, dynamic biological risk monitoring, and germplasm resource evaluation and identification.

Dr. Howard Doong has received rigorous interdisciplinary academic training across top-tier global institutions. He earned his Master of Science in Genetics from the University of New Hampshire, a Doctor of Philosophy in Organismal Biology and Anatomy from the University of Chicago, and a Doctor of Medicine and Science from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.

With profound academic attainments and extensive industrial experience in international life science research and biotechnology development, Dr. Doong has held teaching and research appointments at prestigious universities in the United States and the U.S. National Cancer Institute. Currently, he serves as a Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at Fu Jen Catholic University and is a distinguished expert recruited under China's Overseas High-Level Talents "Hundred Talents Program".

A globally renowned specialist in molecular pathological diagnosis, next-generation sequencing, liquid biopsy and cell therapy, Dr. Doong has long been committed to fundamental research and industrial transformation of cutting-edge biotechnologies, with more than 100 academic papers published in authoritative international journals. Beyond biomedical research, he has conducted in-depth, long-term fundamental studies on soybean genetics. His systematic original research focuses on isoenzyme hereditary traits, electrophoretic variation mechanisms, and the genetic diversity of global soybean germplasm resources. His research findings have established a solid scientific foundation for soybean germplasm conservation, genetic evolution analysis and innovative crop breeding.

WAAS highlights that this appointment builds a critical platform for the in-depth integration of advanced molecular detection technologies and modern agricultural biosafety research. Leveraging Dr. Doong's distinctive interdisciplinary research strengths, both parties will jointly promote the innovative application of genetic diagnostic technologies in crop disease monitoring, biological invasion early warning and germplasm characterization. This strategic collaboration will further optimize the global crop biosafety prevention and control system, and provide strong scientific and technological backing for the protection of global food security.
