September 17, 2026
Accra, 17 September — At the invitation of relevant Ghanaian institutions, a three-member expert mission of the Ghana Agricultural Programme of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences (WAAS), led by Mr. Hughley Young, Director, Ghana Agricultural Programme, WAAS, conducted a field visit to the Republic of Ghana from 14 to 17 September to investigate its specialty agroforestry industries.
During the visit, the expert group held working meetings with local industrial practitioners and representatives of scientific research institutions in Ghana. The team carried out field investigations into local cash trees, the cultivation of specialty crops and the status of relevant industrial chains, assessed the potential for sustainable agroforestry development, and exchanged practical experience in improved seed breeding, field management, agricultural product value addition and climate-resilient agriculture.
Centered on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, both sides explored viable pathways for practical cooperation in the field of specialty agroforestry, including technical empowerment, joint construction of demonstration bases and capacity-building. The expert group heard Ghana's industrial priorities and sorted out potential cooperation entry points, laying a foundation for the design of subsequent joint projects and technical assistance.
WAAS remains committed to supporting African countries in developing climate-resilient agroforestry industries to enhance food security and foster inclusive rural economic growth. This visit deepens mutual trust between both sides and advances a long-term, mutually beneficial technical partnership in agriculture.
The expert mission successfully concluded its field assignment on 17 September.
