The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance was successfully held in Shanghai. The series of keynote initiatives released at the conference have clarified the direction for the sound development of global artificial intelligence and international intelligent governance cooperation. The World Academy of Agricultural Sciences (WAAS) highly recognizes the core concepts and cooperative initiatives of the conference.
Addressing challenges to global agricultural development and world food security, leveraging cutting-edge digital and intelligent technologies, China's self-developed 'Mazu' intelligent meteorological early warning system can effectively enhance the capacity of countries, especially developing nations, in meteorological disaster prediction, disaster prevention, mitigation and emergency response. It plays a vital role in stabilizing global agricultural production, consolidating the foundation of food security, and advancing sustainable agricultural development, which is highly aligned with the core mission of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Based on the overall vision of global sustainable development, the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences expresses its proactive willingness to deeply participate in global artificial intelligence governance and international cooperation. The Academy actively engages with the work of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, striving to bridge the global digital divide and narrow the north-south development gap through digital and intelligent technological empowerment, and contribute to the common development of all mankind via pragmatic international cooperation.
At present, the Academy is systematically investigating and sorting out the operational mechanisms, cooperation frameworks and membership access rules of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. When conditions are mature, the Academy will formally submit a membership application. It aims to become an official international member of the organization, further integrate into the global AI governance system, promote the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence and digital technology with modern agriculture, and contribute international think-tank strength to global food security and green and sustainable agricultural development.
